Venus Bay Boat Ramp Channel

A shallow channel that can only be navigated by shallow draught, suitably designed vessels during favourable tide conditions.

Twenty-seven different boat ramps are located all across the expanse of the lake - some require a launch fee, many are free. On-the-Water boat mooring facilities are available at the Sam Rayburn Marina Resort, Powell Park Marina and Shirley Creek Marina. Click the " Marinas " section for additional information.

Smithville Lake visitors can access five multi-lane boat ramps. There are five multi-lane boat ramp locations at Smithville Lake providing a wide range of boating activity locations. The Route W boat multi-ramp is locatied on the north side of Missouri Route W, 1.5 miles east of U.S. Highway 169.

Foreshore: Flat and wide, very exposed beach almost 24km long. Activities: Surfing, walking and fishing. Swimming advisable for strong swimmers only.

The beaches of Venus Bay are some of the most beautiful in Victoria. The main beach, Venus Bay Beach, is a stunning stretch of coastline that is home to a variety of wildlife, including fur seals, dolphins and even whales.

Generally, ramp slopes from 15 percent (1.5 feet of drop over a 10-foot length) to 12 percent ensure that boaters will have little trouble launching or pulling their boats from the water. If the slope is steeper than 15 percent, retrieving a boat and trailer is difficult.

Visitors may pay $5.00 per launch at the boat ramp, or purchase an annual pass for a fee of $40.00. Annual Passes are available at the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center, the Carlyle Lake Project Office, and at the campground fee booths.

The broad sandy beaches and powerful tides of Venus Bay at Cape Liptrap Coastal Park are also popular spots for surfing. They work best with moderate south-westerly swell and north to north-east winds. Westerly winds can blow out the surf and intensify the currents.

Boating: Five miles per hour only—no wakes permitted. Boat ramp and dock. Also canoeing. Trails: Short hiking and nature trails.

Venus Bay is located approx. 150 kilometres south east of Melbourne and only a short drive away from Walkerville, Inverloch and Wonthaggi with Tarwin Lower being the nearest town.
