I don't know what you're looking for
You haven't found it baby that's for sure
You rip me up and spread me all around
In the dust of the deed of time

And this is not a case of lust you see
It's not a matter of you versus of me
It's fine the way you want me on your own
But in the end it's always me alone

And I'm losing my favourite game
You're losing your mind again
I'm losing my babay
Losing my favourite game

I only know what I've been working for
Another you so I could love you more
I really thought that I could take you there
But my experiment is not getting us anywhere

I had a vision I could turn you right
A stupid mission and a lethal fight
I should have seen it when my hope was new
My heart is black and my body is blue

And I'm losing my favourite game
You're losing your mind again
I'm losing my favourite game
You're losing your mind again

I'm losing my baby
Losing my favourite game

I'm losing my favourite game (losing my favourite game)
You're losing your mind again (I've tried)
I've tried but you're still the same (I've tried)

I'm losing my baby
You're losing a saviour and a saint

Your average relationship. He's a badboy, the first verse tells us the way he treats her. Second verse tells us how she thought that she'd be the one to change him, that she was the one who'd make a decent man of him. Third verse is her acceptance that it hasn't worked, that is was a stupid idea to think that she could stop him being an asshole, and now she's cold. By the end, she stills sees herself as some sort of angel, despite her choosing someone who was obviously bad and admitting that, in the end, it was all just a stupid experiement to make her feel more secure.

    Song Meaning

I think the song is about herself. She can't save herself and she gives up. She finally just doesn't give a sh*t and flies free. However, since she says "him versus me", that might make it totally different. The video (visual affect) is quite moving and understandable

i think this song is all about how she likes the drama of the relationship shes in. This guy she is with is no good for her, abusing her physically and mentally. and it sounds like he might be a drug addict too. And she wants to be the one to change him.

    Lyric Correction

It's a 'legal' fight, not lethal. Listen to what she says. She says 'legal'.

"I had a vision I could turn you rightA stupid mission 'and a legal' fightI should have seen it when my hope was newMy heart is black and my body is blue"

    Correction within 'quotes'.

Domestic abuse, literally. From the perspective and that destructive head space of the habitually abused. “my heart is black and my body is blue””you’re losing your mind, again” “I try but you’re still the same”

There is death at the end; perhaps literal but certainly allegorical in the sense that she is giving up on her mission. “you’re losing a saviour and a saint”. Game over.

I love this song: it has kick ass music you can sing along to. The video was well mad, because it fits perfectly with the moral of the song- a woman trying to save her relationship, then kills herself because she can't.

Light Up The Sky Van Halen The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it. Mountain Song Jane's Addiction Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it.""There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets." Gentle Hour Yo La Tengo This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.Great version of a great song, Head > Heels Ed Sheeran “Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
