Immersive Van Gogh at SVN West in San Francisco - January 3, 2022 | SF Station (2024)

With "Immersive Van Gogh" audiences experience the art of Van Gogh projected on the walls of a dimly lit, large open room. Ambient music amplifies the overall effect. A wish list would have included an additional room or two that talked about Van Gogh, his accomplishments, his anguish, mental illness, the influence of Paris & the French country-side, and that of other post-impressionist painters. Still, if you're up for the Insta-type photo or outsized visual experience, the ~30 minute presentation will easily satisfy.

San Francisco Bay Area artists are invited to apply for one of three month-long residencies at San Francisco's SVN West. Villa San Francisco is a project of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States and co-produced with the Consulate General of France in San Francisco and the French American Cultural Society with the support of Institut Français in Paris.

Interested artists are invited to submit an application by Sunday, May 9 at 11:59pm to [emailprotected] with the subject line: 'Artist in Residence Villa SF - [First Name, Last Name]', and include the following information:

Contact Information (Full Name, Mailing Address, Phone Number, Email Address) and Resume (a one-page resume describing academic, artistic, professional, and other relevant experience)

Bio and Artistic Statement (a 100-word artist biography and a 100-word summary of a proposed VIP project piece. These summaries will be used as a narrative for administrative and public use)

Statement of Intent (a one-page statement of intent explaining why you are interested in this program)

Resource Request (outline of all facility needs--running water, power outlets, tables and chairs, etc.)

Portfolio (five samples of your artistic work)

~~~~~~~
Experience art like never before - lose yourself in 300,000 cubic feet of flawless projections animating Vincent van Gogh's oeuvre. Wander through entrancing, moving images that highlight brushstrokes, detail, and color - truly illuminating the mind of the genius.
You will be immersed in Van Gogh's works - from his sunny landscapes and night scenes to his portraits and still life paintings. The installation includes the Mangeurs de pommes de terre (The Potato Eaters, 1885), the Nuit étoilée (Starry Night, 1889), Les Tournesols (Sunflowers, 1888), and La Chambre à coucher (The Bedroom, 1889), and so much more.
Experience the organic landscapes of Van Gogh's imagination, and journey through his brilliance and madness.
Astonishing in scale and breathtakingly imaginative, you will experience Van Gogh's art in a completely new and unforgettable way.
The exhibit is designed and conceived by Massimiliano Siccardi, with soundtrack by Luca Longobardi, both of whom pioneered immersive digital art experiences in France with Atelier des Lumières.
This exhibition contains sequences of bright flashing lights which may affect visitors who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy, as well as others who are sensitive to moving lights. Viewer discretion is advised.
Ticket prices start at $39.99 ($24.99 for children 16 or younger), with VIP, timed, and flexible ticket options available.
Safety is our number one priority for all guests attending Immersive Van Gogh San Francisco. With over 170,000 visitors in Toronto during COVID-19, and zero reported cases associated with the exhibition since opening, we're proud to be operating an experience where it is safe to GOGH.
Note: The movement of the imagery on the walls could cause people who are easily prone to vertigo some discomfort or even nausea.
