Bailey’s Irish Cream – You will use Bailey’s to offer a nice creamy richness to the gingerbread Christmas shots!

Butterscotch Schnapps – This is my secret ingredient. I know it might be weird to think of butterscotch for a gingerbread recipe but it is so tasty.

Vodka – Reach for a plain vodka, any brand will work great.

Gingerbread Simple Syrup – Now you can buy gingerbread simple syrup or make the homemade syrup. It is up to you.

Knox Gelatin – Plain gelatin is used for setting up the shots.

Whipped Cream – This is optional.

Gingerbread Sprinkles – Optional as well but is very fun if you add whipped cream on top!

  • Don’t add too much alcohol or it will cause the shots to not set up.

FAQs

Common questions about this holiday shots recipe!

How do you make Jello shots easier?

If you want you can use molds to pour your Jello into to set up, or even pour into a cookie sheet. Then use cookie cutters to make shapes out of the Jello.

Does it matter how much vodka you put in Jello shots?

Adding too much alcohol to Jello shots will cause them to not set up properly. Typically you only want around 1/2 cup of alcohol for shots. For this gingerbread shots recipe I used 3 types of alcohol so there is more than a typical shot.

Do you spray jello shot cups?

I find that if you are using plastic shot cups they don’t need to be sprayed with cooking spray. Just squeezing the sides a bit offer a way to loosen the shot. If you have had trouble in the past, go right ahead and lightly spray first.

Does freezing jello ruin it?

You will find that freezing Jello creates a different texture to the Jello. I recommend not freezing your Jello as it can affect the outcome of your shots.

FAQs

How far in advance should you make jello shots? ›

Jello shots will last in the fridge for 3-5 days so you can make them in advance for your party. After that, they may lose their flavor and the consistency of the shot will start to change.

What is the best alcohol to use for jello shots? ›

Spiked with alcohol, these boozy jigglers are easy to make and come in every color and flavor imaginable. While vodka is a popular option because of its neutral flavor, you'll find jelly shot recipes that use rum, tequila, whiskey, liqueurs, wine, and even a dark beer. Some are layered, and others are nice and simple.

Should alcohol be cold when making jello shots? ›

Note: The colder your alcohol is, the better the result. I think this has to do with the activation of the gelatin. Personally, when possible, I keep the bottle of alcohol in the freezer for several days before making my shots.

What do you use to hold jello shots? ›

Molding Jello-Shots

To mold the shots, you can use 1-ounce disposable plastic cups, shot glasses, or silicone molds in any shape. If using individual cups, place them on a sheet pan so it's easy to transfer them to to the fridge. For easy pouring into the shots, use a turkey baster or a pitcher with a thin spout.

Is it OK to make jello shots the night before? ›

Jelly shots can be made the night before your event. However, don't cut or unmold them until about an hour before serving. Cut or unmold, and place them on a nonstick cookie sheet or plate until ready to plate.

Do jello shots get stronger the longer they sit? ›

Jello Shots, like life, are all about balance. That said, if you want a strong one, it is possible if you leave it in the fridge long enough. In a Supercall experiment, we found that the strongest Jello Shot that will set is three-to-one ratio of 80-proof alcohol to water, and it took a full day to become mostly solid.

Do you spray cups for jello shots? ›

Place shot glasses on a baking tray for easy transport. Pour gelatin mixture into paper or plastic shot cups* and chill in refrigerator until set, 1 hour or more. *Reviewers suggest coating the shot cups lightly with cooking spray so the shots slide right out.

Can you put too much vodka in jello shots? ›

Jello shots won't set properly if you add too much alcohol. Generally, a basic batch of jello shots is made with one cup of juice or water, one packet of gelatin, 1/2 cup of cold water and 1/2 cup of alcohol.

When making jello shots do you replace the water for alcohol? ›

Their key takeaways:
  1. A standard recipe made with 3 ounces of Jell-O powder calls for 5 ounces of 80-proof vodka and 11 ounces of water, but this results in a shot that tastes watered-down.
  2. To make a stronger shot, use just 4 ounces of water and between 8 and 14 ounces of vodka (to taste)

How many jello shots does a 6 oz box make? ›

1 small box of jello yields about 15 jello shots (2 cups of liquid). 2 boxes (or 1 large 6 oz. box) yield 30 shots, which will fit nicely on a baking sheet to transport them easily to the refrigerator.

How much alcohol is too much for jello shots? ›

Technically, you should put 1/2 cup of liquor into your Jello Shots. However, you can use as much as 2/3 cup without changing the texture of the Jello Shots. If you add too much alcohol, it will cause the Jello Shots to not set properly.

Does it matter what vodka you use for jello shots? ›

What brand of Vodka can I use for making Jello shots? The brand is entirely up to you - but if it was me I'd go budget brand like Absolut or Stoli and you can have a lot of mixing the flavored vodka with jello flavors - off the top of my head I would say Strawberry Jello with Absolut Peppar.

Do you put lids on jello shots when hot? ›

Pour in the vodka and cold water and whisk once more to combine. Pour the jello mixture into the plastic cups, filling about 3/4 full so there is room for the lid to be put on later. Refrigerate the shots for 2-3 hours or until set. Put a lid on each cup and store in the fridge until ready to serve.

How long does it take jello shots to harden? ›

How Long for Jello Shots to Set? If you're wondering how long it will take for your jello shots to set, it depends on which type you make, but a general rule is two to four hours. A basic jello shot recipe should be allowed to set in the fridge for at least two hours. Four hours is better.

Do you cover jello shots while it sets? ›

Pour the jello mixture into the plastic cups, filling about 3/4 full so there is room for the lid to be put on later. Refrigerate the shots for 2-3 hours or until set. Put a lid on each cup and store in the fridge until ready to serve.

How do you keep jello shots from sticking? ›

That's where a new trick comes into play that promises to make downing those Jell-O shots at the party so much easier to consume: turn the shot upside down to prevent the Jell-O from sticking to the cup.

How long does jello need to set before eating? ›

The answer to this question may vary depending on the size of jello portions as well as on the temperature in the fridge. Generally speaking, most jello sets in 2-4 hours. Unless you make an extra-large jello dessert, 4 hours will be enough for gelatin to harden.
