What is the aisle of shame at Aldi? ›

Located in the center of the store, the aisle is packed with what the grocer refers to as “Aldi Finds,” a rotating stock of limited-edition, often seasonally themed items (think: a grill gazebo during summer or spooky mugs just ahead of Halloween).

We strive to never let good food go to waste. With this in mind, our stores and warehouses are partnered with a local food bank to redistribute unsaleable products still safe for consumption, to limit food waste and address food insecurity in our communities.

Our fresh produce is delivered daily, and each week we release a new selection of ALDI Finds, which are limited-time, specialty products ranging from unique foods and home goods to unexpected items like gardening essentials and pet accessories.

In Austria and Slovenia, Aldi operates stores under the Hofer brand. Aldi Nord also owns the Trader Joe's grocery chain in the United States which operates separately from the group. Aldi Süd owns the Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarket chains in the southern United States.

There are no checkout lines, cashiers, or scanners. Instead, customers can simply use their credit or debit card, or for a more streamlined experience, download the Grabango app in advance to pay via a QR code.

Wednesdays and Sundays are Best

For the broadest selection, the best time to shop at Aldi is on Wednesday mornings. That's when the store restocks its shelves. You can also visit on Sundays, when Aldi offers its Hot Deals on some of the most popular items. These tend to go quickly.

Aldi said March 7 it completed the acquisition of Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers Inc., the parent company of the Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarket chains.

Aldi Finds are released every Wednesday or Sunday, depending on the store. If you have your heart set on a particular Aldi Find, head to the Aldi website to find out when your local store restocks. It's the best way to ensure you'll be able to get it. And don't forget to peep the discounted aisles, as well!

“The customers who come in and only buy milk and eggs are not great for Aldi. No one really makes money off of that,” he said. “You have to get that customer who comes in once or twice a week to also pick up some other products. That's where this aisle of shame fits in and helps Aldi offer its low prices overall.”

California-based Trader Joe's brands itself as a “national chain of neighborhood grocery stores.” But the grocery chain known for its private label goods and competitive prices is owned by the same German family that founded another well-known grocery store: Aldi.

In the context of Aldi, the site explains, “the 'shame' seems to revolve around the joke that people go to Aldi intending to get bread and milk, but they end up shamefully drifting into the middle aisle and purchasing things they may not need, from teal cabinets to pressure cookers.”

Aldi's 'aisle of shame' is a middle row of goodies that have nothing to do with groceries.
